Syria army captures rebel-held Hanano area in Aleppo

The Syrian army said it had taken control of an important district in rebel-held eastern Aleppo on Saturday after fierce fighting, with rebels blaming intense air strikes and lack of hospitals for their collapsing frontline.
Government forces advanced with a ground and air assault on the edge of the besieged eastern half of the city into the Hanano housing area, a move designed to split the rebel-held east in two.

Aleppo, which was Syria's biggest city before the start of a civil war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people, is divided between the government-held west and rebel-held east, where UN officials say at least 250,000 people are under siege.
Capturing all of Aleppo would be a major victory for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after five and a half years of fighting.
The army said in a statement it had, alongside its allies, taken full control over the Hanano housing district, which is on the northeast frontline of the eastern sector.
"Engineering teams are removing mines and improvised explosive devices planted by terrorists in the squares and streets," the statement said.
The Syrian government calls all forces fighting against it "terrorists".
An official in an Aleppo rebel group said a map circulated by pro-government media showing government forces in control of the Hanano area was largely accurate.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the army had established control over Hanano, which was the first part of Aleppo taken over by armed opposition groups in 2012.
A renewed air assault on residential and frontline parts of east Aleppo began last Tuesday after a weeks-long pause in air strikes and shelling there.
“Every day there are a lot of attacks, helicopters dropping barrelbombs and war planes dropping bunker-buster bombs and cluster munitions,” Modar Shekho, an emergency nurse in al-Shaar neighbourhood,

An official from Jabha Shamiya, one of the biggest groups fighting against Assad in northern Syria, told Reuters news agency: "The revolutionaries are fighting fiercely but the volume of bombardments and the intensity of the battles, the dead and the wounded, and the lack of hospitals, are all playing a role in the collapse of these frontlines."
Members of Jabha Shamiya have taken part in the fighting in Hanano.
He condemned the "international silence" and said the government and its allies were trying to exploit the period before the next US administration took over.
"The Iranians, Russians and regime know there is a vacuum and they are trying to exploit it using all means," he said.
"We are in touch with the friendly states but unfortunately Aleppo is being left to be slaughtered."

Government forces target makeshift hospitals in Aleppo

Yasser al-Yousef, from the political office of the Nour al-Din al-Zinki rebel group, said rebel fighters had fought fiercely for more than 48 hours to defend Hanano and the southern front of east Aleppo from heavy government bombardment.
A Syrian state television reporter broadcast live from a part of Hanano on Saturday as government forces sought to establish full control over the area. Gunshots could be heard and behind him damaged buildings and rising smoke could be seen.
Rebels say much of Hanano has been empty of residents for some months.
Syrian state media said the army had secured the safe passage of at least 150 people out of Hanano, and showed pictures of people it said were evacuated residents in a reception centre.
In the 12 days since the renewed bombardment on east Aleppo, at least 201 civilians, including 27 children, have died in the besieged sector, the Observatory said. There were 134 rebel fighter deaths.
The monitor also documented 19 civilian deaths, including 11 children, and dozens of injuries as a result of rebel shelling of government-held west Aleppo.
Rebel shelling into the Sheikh Maqsoud district, which is under the control of the Kurdish YPG militia, has killed three people, it said.
Syrian state news agency SANA said three people died and 15 were injured on Saturday when rebels fired rockets into government-held west Aleppo.

Nigeria Oil Prices Could Fall Soon’- Minister Of Petroleum Assures:

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has said crude oil price may fall to $44 per barrel if the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries fails to reach a consensus this week.
The Federal Government has proposed a crude oil benchmark price of $42.5 per barrel for the 2017 budget, compared to this year’s $38 per barrel.
Brent, against which Nigeria’s oil is priced, dropped to $47.12 per barrel on Friday from $49 per barrel on Thursday.
OPEC will meet on November 30 in Vienna, Austria, to assign output quotas after agreeing on a framework deal in September to tackle the supply glut in the global oil market.

“The challenge is less with OPEC and more with the outer forces we don’t control. The United States is beginning to ramp up volumes again,” Kachikwu told Bloomberg in an interview in Tokyo.

He said,

“My greater worry is less than OPEC’s ability to find unity in these issues, which I think we will; and more the fact of how much a decision that we make impacts on the pricing issues.”

Kachikwu said oil price might rise slightly above $50 per barrel if a consensus was reached, and could fall as low as $44 without a deal.
Oil prices fell more than two per cent on Friday, dragged down by uncertainty over whether OPEC would reach an output deal, after Saudi Arabia said it would not attend talks on Monday with non-OPEC producers to discuss supply cuts.

Trump election: Clinton campaign joins Wisconsin vote recount

A lawyer for Hillary Clinton's campaign says it will participate in a recount of US presidential election votes in the state of Wisconsin.

Officials there are preparing to conduct the process, which was initiated by Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein.
Dr Stein has also pledged to file for recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The result would need to be overturned in all three states to alter the outcome of the election.
Wisconsin was narrowly won by Donald Trump, and it appears unlikely that this will change after the recount.
The Clinton campaign's general counsel, Marc Elias, said the Clinton team and outside experts had been "conducting an extensive review of election results, searching for any signs that the voting process had been tampered with".

He said there was no evidence to conclude the election was sabotaged, but "we have an obligation to the more than 64 million Americans who cast ballots for Hillary Clinton to participate in ongoing proceedings to ensure that an accurate vote count will be reported".
Mr Elias noted that the number of votes separating Mr Trump and Mrs Clinton in the closest of the three states  - Michigan -  "well exceeds the largest margin ever overcome in a recount".
However, he said the campaign would join in "on principle" in the Midwestern states if Dr Stein follows through on her promise.
The Green Party nominee reportedly wants to be sure computer hackers did not skew the poll in favour of Mr Trump.
Concerns over possible Russian interference had been expressed in the run-up to the vote.
The US government has said Russian state actors were behind hacks on the Democratic National Committee.

$7m fundraising target

In a statement on Friday, the Wisconsin Elections Commission said it had received two recount petitions from the Jill Stein campaign and from Rocky Roque De La Fuente, a businessman who ran unsuccessfully to be the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
Administrator Michael Haas said the count would begin in the week after Dr Stein's campaign has paid the fee, which the commission was still calculating.

Dr Stein's campaign needs to raise millions of dollars to cover the fees for the vote recount in all three states.
Her website says nearly $5.3m (£4.2m) has already been raised toward a $7m target. It says this is enough to fund the recounts in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

John Bonifaz and J Alex Halderman, voting rights lawyers who urged candidates to request recounts, have said the "physical evidence" that could signal a cyber-attack needs to be closely analysed.
But Mr Halderman said the fact that the results in the three states were different from what polls predicted was "probably not" down to hacking.
The deadline for the petition for the recount in Wisconsin was Friday, while Pennsylvania's deadline is Monday, and Michigan's is Wednesday.
Michigan is yet to declare its final results.

Wisconsin provides only 10 votes in the crucial electoral college that gave Mr Trump victory in the 8 November election.
Wins there for Mrs Clinton, as well as in Michigan (16 electoral votes) and Pennsylvania (20 electoral votes), would have clinched the presidency for the Democrat.
Mr Trump's camp has made no public comments on the recounts issue.
